According to Wikipedia, a logo is "a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol used to aid and promote public identification and recognition". In other words, it is the visual mark of your business that establishes and identifies your brand and enables you to connect with your audience. It may be abstract or figurative and may (or may not) include the written business name...but whatever it is, it becomes one of the most important elements of your business!
Your company logo is almost as important as your company name...& quite frankly should be one of the things you invest a little money, a lot of time and considerable amount of thought. It's design, style and color(s) tells the story of your brand and helps to create your brand's image. For small businesses, where advertising budgets are much smaller than larger counterparts, it should invoke somewhat of a mental picture of your business as it becomes the stepping stone of all marketing and promotional campaigns.
When we think of some of the most recognizable logos in the world, these 10 quickly come to mind:
Starbucks' siren
Mcdonald’s golden arches
Apple's bitten apple
Fedex's wordmark
Mercedes' star
Pepsi's red, white and blue globe
Nike's swoosh
Coca-Cola's scripted red font
Google's colorful wordmark
Target's bullseye
Let's face it, whether or not you are a fan of any of these brands, their recognition is undeniable! Kids today are practically born recognizing those golden arches...and Chuck E Cheese's deserves an honorable mention for the little ones as well.
Logos are an essential part of branding your business and set you apart from your competition. Just think, if it weren't for logos, we wouldn't have known the difference between the World Wildlife Fund and the World Wrestling Federation (although now known as WWE)...or between Dove soap and Dove chocolate!
Logos are like signatures...no two are exactly alike and they are unique and special & they identify you as you! (smile)
